    Charitable Trusts

Charitable trusts exist in order to fund projects that might otherwise not be able to be formed.  Charitable trusts themselves are usually formed either by Government charitable bodies, individual bodies, such as The Princes Trust, and just those who bequeath all their good to begin a charitable body.  Charitable Trusts are non profit making organisations and are many and varied. If you are looking for funds you will have to shop around to find the right Trust to approach.  Many of them specialise although some Government funded Charitable Trusts have a more general umbrella. For obvious reasons there are various hoops to jump through to ensure that your enterprise falls within the remit of the Trust so there is a great deal of paperwork to contend with.  Most Trusts have cyclical lending times and it is important to know what they are to ensure you have your paperwork in on time for it to be reviewed within the time frame.  Examples of Charitable Trusts are:  Big Lottery – improving Futures; Social Business Trust, European Refugee Fund; Funding for women’s projects; Barclays Community Sports Award amongst so many. Each of them champion a specific field, for example The Captain Scott Society provides funds to assist individuals or groups to undertake adventure activities.  Sometimes the application may be turned down on one award cycle but may then be readmitted and be successful on a future award so perseverance is the key.
